Need Lots of Space? Here Are Storage Options for Your Property

Most people find themselves in need of more storage space all the time, nut more after the holidays. This is because, during the holidays, we seem to accumulate a lot of items that are not needed year-round. Things are brought out of storage just for the few weeks after the holidays and then put back in storage.

It can be tempting to buy another shelf or two, but this might not be an effective use of your money or time. Instead, there are other options for you to choose from when it comes to storing your items, and here’s how they stack up:

Attic

If you have one, then this is an excellent choice because attics offer plenty of room with high ceilings so you can store large furniture pieces as well as decorations and seasonal clothes. You will also want to make sure that your attic is adequately insulated. This way, you do not have to deal with the items being exposed to high levels of heat or humidity, which can result in a shorter life expectancy for some things.

Sheds and Storage Buildings

These are great for people who have a medium-sized or large yard and can hold several items at a time. There are also sheds and buildings good for storage, which is an excellent place to put excess furniture or bikes, hand tools, or other large items.

Larger sheds can house your lawn and garden equipment and allow you to store them so that they do not take up space in your garage or shed where there is already limited room.  You can also store firewood in the shed or off to the side of it.

Barns

If you own a large piece of land or have a farm, then it might be in your best interest to invest in a barn.  This is an excellent place to store equipment that you do not use regularly, excess furniture, and even vehicles. Just make sure that there are no windows or other openings where rodents can get in, which could destroy stored items.

It is also important to make sure that you choose a location for the barn that will not be an eyesore or inconvenient for you or your family.

Basement

If you have a basement, this can be an excellent option. However, you might find yourself running into the issue of flooding, which is why you must never store items of value here. It’s a security concern, and the last thing you want is to find out that your collection of vintage Star Wars figures has been destroyed by a small flood or leak in the basement ceiling.

Good things to store in the basement include workout equipment, extra linen for your guest bedroom, and children’s toys that are not being used. In addition to these storage options, you might find that it is necessary or convenient to use a combination of several products from the same company.

For example, if you have selected a shed for your storage needs but need additional storage while under construction, then a temporary shed might be perfect for your needs. Another example would be to use a tent or canopy in conjunction with a storage unit or building. For instance, you could purchase a canopy to go over the front porch of your large storage building so that larger items can sit there outside where they can still be protected.

Garage Attic

This storage option has the benefit of being accessible from inside and outside the garage. This is another excellent choice for storage if you have a garage with an attic, especially when there are limited spaces in the basement or if flooding is a potential issue.

Hanging Racks

For smaller, lighter items such as Christmas decorations and clothes, using hanging racks can be a great solution because they allow you to separate the items into categories rather than just throwing them all into one big box. You can find these racks at just about any home improvement store, and there are even ones that have been designed specifically for use in garages, attics, and sheds.

Garage Storage Shelving Units

Shelving units suitable for use in your garage are also a good option because they offer easy access and different height options so that you can arrange them according to the type of item being stored. It is possible to purchase shelving units for your sheds and barns. However, keep in mind that space will be limited, so you may want to focus on further separating items into categories via hanging racks or use some other kind of storage option instead.

Interior Storage Cabinets

These are great because they allow you to maximize your storage capacity while at the same time providing a way for people to access their contents without creating too much mess in an otherwise small space.

While it may seem overwhelming at first, planning effective storage options for your property can be quite simple if you follow these guidelines. If you aren’t sure where to start, then speak with a home improvement professional for guidance on best organizing your specific space.
